As a Bible college graduate and youth pastor, I could not do without this commentary set. Wiersbe uses everday illustrations and gives a good explanation of the text. However as with many commentators, some difficult passages are skipped. I think the new testament series is just a step above these.

About the Author

Michael Sullivan, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Chicago State University, received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mike taught at Chicago State for 35 years before recently retiring. He is a native of Chicago’s South Side and divides his time between a home in Oak Lawn IL and a condo in Naples FL.

 

Mike is a member of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America. He is a past president of the Text and Academic Authors Association and is currently Treasurer of its Foundation. He is a member of the TAA Council of Fellows and was awarded the TAA Mike Keedy award in 1997 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Mike has been writing textbooks for more than 35 years and currently has 15 books in print, twelve with Pearson Education. When not writing, he enjoys tennis, golf, gardening, and travel.

 

Mike has four children: Kathleen teaches college mathematics; Michael III teaches college mathematics and is his coauthor on two precalculus series; Dan works in publishing; and Colleen teaches middle-school and secondary school mathematics. Twelve grandchildren round out the family.

Good book, but you might not need it...

The book is just dandy. The problem is that I don't need it. If your instructor uses MathLab, buying or renting this book is pointless; you get a digital copy of it along with your $90 subscription to MathLab. Wait until your first class before you buy, you may save yourself some money.

The math book of empowerment

This book is a great book. I am able to figure out most of the exercises from the the given examples and explanations, but some answers won't make any sense if the student hasn't been given previous experience, as lets say the distance from the origin is 3 radical 3; which confused me at first, but for college freshmen is a little rough, especially in an early chapter.

Other then what I just described, the book is an amazing math text book. On the other hand, with all the changes and requirements in to days schools, the text book may probably be right on track.

With all the revised certification requirements for universities, most universities may now be requiring freshmen take supplementary algebra courses before attending university classes, which can be done at a junior college; which many universities parallel with a junior college anyway.

Beings the Precalculus (10th Edition) by Michael Sullivan, is such a good book, I am not sure I want to return it. I may need this book for three semesters, and depending how long ETSU wants to use this book, it may be cost effective for me to purchase it.

I may have gotten a little off track with this evaluation, but with the right text book what I said all folds together, which what is happening with this text book.

It really useful for my precal course. Chapter include practice test so you can do better on your test by using those practice test.
